On April 6, the 100+ Women Who Care Sedona-Verde Valley Chapter celebrated six years of community service to nonprofits and 18 Giving Circles. The 145 members have collectively donated almost $250,000 to 18 nonprofits.

On April 6, the Sedona Community Center, under the leadership of Marjorie Harris, was voted the chosen recipient. The center opened in 1985, and its mission is to contribute to the health and well-being of seniors in the Sedona area. It offers lunches at the Community Center, Meals on Wheels as well as exercise classes, art instruction, grief support and social activities. It will receive approximately $14,500. To learn more about its services or volunteer, call (928) 282-2834 or go to its website, sccsedona.org.

Some club members generously wrote an extra check to the two other finalists: Sedona Area Veterans Community Outreach and Wheel Fun.

Project Fill the Need, the chosen recipient during the Winter Giving Circle on Feb. 2, received checks amounting to $14,500. Board President Kathy Wozniak accepted the funds and spoke to members about the nonprofit’s Food Pantry located at Big Park Community School. It provides healthy, non-perishable and perishable food to underserved residents in the VOC, Rimrock, Camp Verde, Lake Montezuma, Sedona and Cornville. To reach Project Fill the Need to learn more or volunteer, email info@projectfilltheneed.org or call Wozniak (602) 541-8425.

The 100+ Women Who Care meetings are held at the Sedona Elks Lodge, which opens for the one-hour meetings because the Elks believe in the mission and want to help. The Steering Committee, lead by Sallyann Navarro, Barbara Quayle, Judy Reichert and Carol Wallen, is grateful.

Anyone interested in becoming a member and making an impact in the community can email Wallen at roycar80@gmail.com to receive an Individual Commitment Form or ask questions.
