The Camp Verde Marshal’s Office on Friday, Oct. 10, opened an investigation into Silvia Adriiana Beltran-Castro of Las Vegas, who is alleged to have stolen about $21,000 from at least two victims.
She has been released on a $10,000 bond.
“Investigators quickly learned that Beltran-Castro had been working as a caregiver for members of our senior community,” CVMO posted to Facebook on Thursday, Oct. 16, announcing the investigation, saying this may not be an isolated incident. “During that time, she is suspected of using credit cards and checks belonging to her senior victims and may have stolen cash from patients and their families.”
“We have two essential victims in Camp Verde, both of which are in the same household,” Sgt. Dustin Richardson said. “We are … trying to get information out to the public to identify any other potential victims in the area. We know that this suspect had spent a lot of time in the Las Vegas, Henderson area and also Bullhead City. So we’ve reached out to those departments, too, to see if she’s been named as a suspect in any other investigations such as this.”
Richardson said Beltran-Castro was working as a private home caregiver in Camp Verde since September but she also “possibly separated from and/or had misrepresented her employer or employment,” to the victims.
“Beltran-Castro has charges of fraud schemes, theft, misrepresentation, vulnerable adult position of trust and then check fraud,” Richardson said.
“She traveled all the way out to Vegas, and everywhere in between, she was allegedly using funds from the victims,” Richardson said. “So we’re having to track down a bunch of that surveillance and transactions.”
“I just want to caution the public about putting trust in individuals and allowing them into their homes and allowing them access to their financials,” Richardson said. “There are a lot of people out there who are scamming the seniors in our communities. We just really want to make sure that people are aware of the dangers, and they’re being cognizant of these types of things that are happening.”
Residents who believe that they may have been victimized or that they have information that can assist investigators are encouraged to contact CVMO at (928) 554-8300.
