Many great splashes will be heard on Saturday, Oct. 18, as people jump into the Sedona Community Pool at Posse Grounds Park at 570 Posse Grounds Road during the annual Great Pumpkin Splash.
Anyone is welcome to come choose a pumpkin that will be floating in the pool from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Online registration opened Wednesday, Oct. 1, but the event is free this year.
“When you register, you’re entered into a raffle for a $250 gift card for Spirit Halloween,” new city of Sedona Athletic and Aquatic Supervisor Kimberly Sager said. “So the family’s costumes this year can be on us.”
The first 200 people to register will be entered into the raffle, according to the city’s website.
Registration also reserves a goodie bag, which will include treats and a tote attendees can take trick-or-treating, Sager said.
Pumpkins are also limited, so “being registered in advance reserves you a pumpkin,” Sager said. In past years, event tickets have gone quickly.
The event will also have a pumpkin-decorating station which will include stickers and other decorating tools. An ice cream and smoothie truck will be available along with games and other types of food trucks.
“We will be setting up a pumpkin ring toss game and a no-hands doughnut eating contest,” Sager said. “Should be a fun time.”
Registration for the event is on the Sedona Parks and Recreation website. Anyone interested in being a vendor at the event can also go to the city’s website to apply.
The next Halloween event put on by the city’s parks and rec department is the annual Uptown Trick-or-Treat event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Halloween, Friday, Oct. 31. Participating merchant locations will have an “Uptown Trick or Treat” sign posted.
Depending on weather, 2,000 and 3,000 people attend.
Anyone with leftover pumpkins looking to get rid of them can take them to the Fest of Fall taking place at Posse Grounds Park from 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, to have them composted.
