What classes are you teaching this year?

I am teaching two dual enrollment courses with Yavapai College which are Acting I and Stagecraft. I am also teaching several sections of theater for seventh and eighth graders.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I like to hike. I love nature. I love animals. I love hanging out with friends and family.

Do you have a family here?

No I do not. I moved here from Ohio. I have been coming to Sedona for almost 10 years and some of the people who have become my friends here feel like family to me.

What interested you in this position?

As a teen, I went to a high school that had a great theater program and it changed my life. I have always wanted to build a high school program that would impact and transform the lives of students.

What is your background in education and/or other professions?

I have a master of fine arts in theater and I was a full-time university professor for over 25 years.

How did you feel about starting school online?

It [was] challenging, but energizing. I feel great that I have been able to learn so much in so little time. I am thankful for the support of my colleagues at SRRHS.

How were you be able to build a classroom community/structure with your students in the first days of online school?

I [used] the idea of wearing masks, since masks are the symbol of theater and historically the first actors wore masks. [The students made theater masks that represented themselves to introduce themselves to the class.]

How did you feel about switching to in-person learning?

I teach theater, so in-person makes it much easier to teach theater than online, but safety is what is most important. I believe our administration is working hard to provide both — safety and the best learning environment for students.

How do you feel about wearing a mask all day?

I am getting used to it more and more. I definitely have to take breaks during the day.
