Showcase to benefit SAHA2 min read

It’s rare when you can be entertained by music, comedy, poetry, belly dancing, martial arts and more, all in one sitting.
That’s exactly what will be taking place during the Sedona Showcase, set for Saturday, July 27. The event will run from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the pavilion at Posse Grounds Park. The show is free to the public and benefits the Sedona Area Homeless Alliance.

“The support from the community has been amazing,” SAHA co-founder Laurie Moore said. “There have been many wonderful items donated by area businesses and supporters for the silent auction.”
Food trucks will be on hand throughout the day. There will also be art booths and other vendors, a silent auction, and a drawing. Proceeds from these will help SAHA provide food and clothing to the homeless in the area.

There is plenty of grass at the Posse Grounds Pavilion, but no built-in seating, so organizers are encouraging spectators to bring their own chairs and blankets, as well as plenty of sunscreen and water.
The event’s headliner will be Steve McCarty, the original guitar player for the Steve Miller Band and co-writer of “Fly Like an Eagle.” The song was released in 1976 and would become one of the band’s biggest hits, reaching No. 2 on the charts.

“Steve Miller and I wrote this song together which evolved over several years with several people during the early ’70s,” McCarty wrote on his website. “It has been used for themes for so many things, from football teams to the U.S. Postal Service. It is a very special song that is more serious and relevant today than even back then.
McCarty is an advocate for the homeless and in fact, his family helped build the St. Elizabeth’s homeless shelter in Santa Fe, N.M.

Also headlining the show is Rachel Reenstra, who will entertain the crowd with her comic observations. Some of the others scheduled to perform will include guitarist Dave Harvey and friends who will kick off the program backed by drummer Eddie Barattini, who has performed with artists like Richie Havens and Chuck Mangione.

Other musical acts include The Fey featuring lead singer Winter Amy, the Pleadian Renegades offering up Woodstock-era classics, Grammy-nominated American Indian flute player Kelvin “Mockingbird” Bizahaloni, and guitarist Tim Young as well as several others.

“The lineup is incredible — filled with awesome talent and huge hearts,” Moore said.
Daniel Holland and Heather Hakola are producing the event. Several years ago Holland sponsored Sedona Showcase for a few years at various locations throughout Sedona.

The benefit is similar to SAHA’s annual benefit, Sedona Bands Together, which will be held this October.
