The Sedona Red Rock High baseball team lost to Camp Verde High 6-2 on Thursday, March 15.

The boys held a 2-1 lead behind pitcher Andrew Castillo-Cockrum going into the sixth inning. SRRHS scored on two passed balls/wild pitches after a Trevor Shreve sacrifice bunt put the runners in scoring position.

?The Camp Verde game we looked real good. The kids kept scrapping and fighting,? Head Coach Brian Batty said.

Surprising was the pitching of Castillo-Cockrum. The catcher who has displayed top-notch receiving skills has also proven to be a quality deliverer.

?One day we just ran out of pitching [earlier this season] and he just does whatever we ask of him,? Batty said.

The SRRHS defense played sound behind him much of the contest. CVHS won the game after star pitcher and outfielder Austin Beeler delivered a game-tying home run and the Cowboys bunched together a series of hits afterward to go ahead.

SRRHS lost by double digits to Holbrook High, Buckeye High and Greyhills Academy High in its final three games of the Estrella Foothills High Tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17.

Batty, whose team took time to watch the Arizona State University baseball team, said the tournament experience was a learning one.

?I talked to the kids again and we are getting better and doing things right. [We] still have one bad inning and we make a lot of mistakes. We are working on not turning one mistake into two or three,? Batty said.

SRRHS will travel to Fountain Hills High on Saturday, March 24, and will host Wickenburg High on Saturday, March 31.
