Sedona Red Rock High School’s track and field team hosted its final meet of the season, the Sedona Invitational, on April 18 before heading to the Valley Christian Invitational on Saturday, April 22.
At Sedona, junior pole vaulter Julia Koss and sophomore pole vaulter Forrest Hartley reached new heights.
Koss took second in the varsity division with a vault of 10-06 while Hartley was also second best in the freshman/sophomore group, clearing 11 feet for the second straight meet. Hartley’s height would have tied for first place in the varsity division.
“I definitely broke through the plateau I’ve had all year,” Koss said. “I finally got things clicking now I’m finally raised the bar.”
Koss and senior Xan Hawes were second and third at Valley Christian, respectively, while sophomore Drake Ortiz cleared 12-01 to take second on the boys side.
Junior Chenoa Crans, who returned from injury on April 18, went a personal best 17.06 in the 100-meter hurdles to take fourth. Crans also took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 28.94. Freshman Jacki King’s time of 16.82 in the 100 hurdles would have beaten Crans, but competed in the freshman/sophomore division.
Junior Javi Pacheco finished seventh in the 200- and 100-meter dashes in 12.06 and 24.16, respectively. Pacheco’s 42.29 in the 300 hurdles was a personal best, finishing third.
Senior Dawson Stevenson finished third in the long jump with a season-best 20-03.50 and tied for third in the high jump. Stevenson cleared 6-01 in the high jump at Valley Christian, winning the event. He also recorded a season best 39-08 in the triple jump on April 22, claiming second.
In Sedona, senior Joe Glomski was beaten on the day in the triple jump [43-05.75] by Camp Verde High School junior Nate Schultz [43-07]. Glomski won the long jump by nearly three feet with a leap of 23-00.
Also at home, senior Chas Rescigno took sixth in the discus [123-08]. In the shot put, senior Justin Aleman [42-00.75], junior Edgar Verdugo [39-00] and senior Jake Christenson [37-02] were third, seventh and ninth, respectively. Rescigno reached a personal best 126-10 in the discus at Valley Christian.
Junior Collier Trcic’s longest leap of the week was a 31-11 in the triple jump in Sedona for fourth place. Trcic was just behind senior Sophia Perry in the long jump, reaching 15-06 and 15-08.50 respectively, both personal bests.
Perry tied for second in the high jump in Sedona at 4-10.
Senior Hannah Ringel continued her dominance in the throwing events. Ringel was a double winner at both meets by a wide margin and is comfortably Division IV’s best.
