Ezequiel y Los Conjunto Addictz opens for Kilted Spirit at Red Dirt concert
It’ll feel like the United Nations but with more clapping in this week’s installment of the free Red Dirt Concert Series, Friday, Sept. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Posse Grounds Pavilion at the Barbara Antonsen Memorial Park.
Elijah Ezequiel y Los Conjunto Addictz will play conjunto, Tejano and Norteño music with Kilted Spirit playing Irish and Scottish and Celtic rock.
“The music’s been in my family for a while,” 16-year-old accordion player Ezequiel said. “My grandfather played in a band, and my father plays in a band, so like there’s always been the music in the house. My father tunes accordions, and one day he brought home this big huge accordion, and I was hooked from there.”
Ezequiel is also working on his first album that he aims to release before the end of the year.
“It feels wonderful to be working on the album, and it is an experience that I’m looking forward to going through, and I hope to push forward and go further musically,” Ezequiel said. “Come out to have fun, listen to some music, kick back, dance, and see Ezequiel y Los Conjunto Addictz and all of the other performers who’ll be there Friday.”
“Kilted Spirit is a Phoenix Irish rock band guaranteed to bring on the craic,” the city of Sedona stated. “Their eclectic mix of instruments and boundless enthusiasm bring fun and excitement to every show.
“Led by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Colleen Collins, the band consists of guitar, bass, fiddle, drums, Irish flute, tin whistle, Irish bouzouki and vocals.”
The band has been playing together since 2010 and has flourished by adding traditional Irish instruments to staples such as Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” and Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”
“I’m really looking forward to connecting with people in such a beautiful environment,” Collins said. “One of the things we do best at a Kilted Spirit show is making it not just a music performance, but a really entertaining experience. We love getting the crowd involved — clapping and singing along — so everyone has a good time. That is why we play music that we love.”
Fest of Fall will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the annual Pumpkin Splash also is on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information visit sedonaaz.gov/events. WagFest, the city of Sedona’s annual celebration of dogs at Posse Grounds Park, has been rescheduled to the spring according to Special Events Coordinator Jason Vargo.
“People should come out to enjoy Irish and Scottish music in a super fun environment,” Collins said. “We want them to be part of the experience, not just sit and listen; clap along, sing along, and share in the joy we have playing this music.”
The 10th anniversary season of the Red Dirt Concert series closes out in a blaze of horns on Friday, Sept. 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. with back-to-back performances of Tucson ska band Swigfoot and The Skavelinas, of Cottonwood.
