During the Sedona City Council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 27, council unanimously accepted a $125,000 grant from Arizona State Parks and Trails for a side-by-side utility terrain vehicle for the Sedona Police Department.

The side-by-side will be used for off-highway vehicle enforcement and education on trail etiquette and responsible use throughout the Sedona trail network, including “remote trailheads, forest roads and areas inaccessible to conventional patrol vehicles,” according to the grant application.

“Increased OHV enforcement was also identified by the Greater Sedona Recreation Collaborative Motorized Recreation Working Group as a priority to reduce illegal activity and encourage responsible recreation,” the grant application reads. “Operations will occur within the city of Sedona and during mutual aid requests in neighboring jurisdictions.”

The $125,000 grant includes $100,000 for the side-by-side with lights and communications, $9,000 for safety equipment, $3,500 for graphics, $6,000 for a recovery kit and $6,500 for a utility trailer.
