Field upgrades move softball season to July
Batter up! Registration is open until Friday, July 3, for the 2026 city of Sedona Adult Softball League at Posse Grounds Park with Sedona Jeep Tours out defending their league championship against tentatively eight different teams.
Games are played on Thursday nights, with the first pitch of the season on Saturday, July 6, at 6 p.m.
“It’s $250 for a team,” Athletics & Aquatics Supervisor Kimberly Sager said. “Games are typically held on Thursday evenings. Something new that we added was reserving the field on Tuesday evening, so that all teams can come and have sort of an open play practice time together. It’s another opportunity to get the community together, and also just work on some skills.”
New for 2026, women are allowed to use aluminum bats and there are some scheduling changes.
“Last year we had nine teams registered, so we’re hoping to get maybe 10 this year,” Sager said. “We do have an active free agents list, so if there’s somebody who doesn’t have a team, they can always come play, and they can reach out to me to get on the free agent list. There’s one team that were all free agents, and they have played for a couple of years now together as a team.”
Practice is all self-directed by each team. The coaches will sign up, and then the coaches correspond with their teammates on when they want to practice. As long as the softball field isn’t reserved, teams are free to go and practice there whenever they want.
“Typically we start in June, but this year we are starting it in July due to our recent renovations on the softball field,” Sager said. “We have a beautiful grass infield now, and the dugouts got renovated, and fencing. It’s going to be a really great refresher on the field. It runs for about three months, so it’ll probably take us into the beginning of October.”
Softball Field Improvements
Players and spectators should also prepare for the remodeling of the concession stand and renovation of its restrooms that will likely be closed from August until the end of the season for construction work, however portable toilets will be set up in the interim.
“The building’s not getting demolished and rebuilt it’s more of a refurbishment — so we’ll prioritize the restrooms reopened, but still probably two to three months” of being closed, Parks and Recreation Manager Josh Frewin said. “If people didn’t want to use those, there are restrooms down by the soccer field area. It’s just a bit of a walk from the pickleball courts.”
Additional improvements to the field in the off-season include: Replacement of the infield dirt, restoration of the dugouts and new fencing on the backstop area.
“We’re excited for the softball season,” Frewin said. “We had a good turnout last year and then we’ll get through the rest of the summer with all the different events and a fun, full pool season as always.”
