Aug. 3, 1930 — June 6, 2025
Anita June MacFarlane, 94, a former mayor of Sedona, died June 6 in Charlotte, NC.
She and her husband, the late Dr. Eugene MacFarlane, retired to Sedona in 1976. She served on the Sedona City Council from 1997 to 2004. She was Sedona vice mayor in 2000 and 2001 and, after the resignation of Mayor Alan Everett on Jan. 8, 2002, she was elected as mayor, serving until June 2002.
Her love for birds inspired a dedication to wildlife issues. She was president of the Northern Arizona Audubon Society, founder of the Arizona Audubon Council, inducted into the Arizona Outdoor Hall of Fame in 2005 and awarded the Great Egret Award by the National Audubon Society in 2016.
She is survived by her son, Andrew [Heidi], and their children Claire and Robert.
The family suggests donations to support children’s programs at the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center in Phoenix.
