Sedona police, SWAT respond to active shooter/barricaded subject at Green Tree Inn

Active shooter situation/barricaded subject at Green Tree Inn, 2991 W. SR 89A, between El Camino Road and Deer Trail Drive in West Sedona according to area employee who said he was told by Sedona law enforcement to shelter in place.

The Verde Valley Regional SWAT team is on scene.

The call came in at 11:50 a.m. on Sunday, July 27. Roughly a dozen law enforcement vehicles are in the north parking lot of the hotel, which is closed off with police tape.

Traffic on State Route 89A through West Sedona in the area is unaffected.

Please stay clear of the residential roads in the immediate area.

A male subject called 911 at 10:24 a.m., indicating he was suicidal and had a gun and was in a room at the Greentree Inn, according to Sedona Communications Manager Lauren Browne stated at 2:02 p.m.

Sedona police officers arrived in minutes and called the Verde Valley Regional SWAT Team, which included a deescalation negotiator, Browne stated. At 12:32 p.m., Sedona police and SWAT evacuated the Greentree Inn and asked other nearby businesses and employees to shelter in place.

Upon police entry into the hotel room at approximately 1:05 p.m., police found the man and paramedics with the Sedona Fire District began assisting with life-saving measures, but the man died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound Browne stated. The shelter in place has been lifted.

The scene is still part of an active investigation.
