The Sedona International Film Festival will be hitting the road again this summer with its giant inflatable screen and movie van to mark the return of “Movies on the Move.”

This season’s series will include musical-themed nights on Wednesdays at The Wilde Resort and Spa, starting June 11 with “Grease,” and classic blockbusters on Thursday nights at Sedona Beer Company’s Basecamp, starting June 12 with “American Graffiti.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating and arrive at least 30 to 45 minutes before showtime to secure spots.

Films will start around 7:30 p.m., or once the sun sets enough to provide good picture quality, and will vary as the summer progresses.

This will be the movie truck’s second season of serving as a community outreach and awareness venue for SIFF.

Executive Director Patrick Schweiss said attendance last year ranged from 35 to 120 depending on the film, with popular concert films drawing the biggest audiences, and he expects attendance to grow.

“It wasn’t just a fundraiser — it was a way to build awareness and be a part of the community,” Schweiss said. “Now we have people asking when it’s coming back. We feel like we’re really starting to establish something special here.”

Tickets are $10 at both venues, an increase of $3 from 2024, which Schweiss said was needed to cover licensing fees and was simpler. Kids 12 and under can attend free.

“We realized it was just easier to handle tens instead of making change with lots of singles,” Schweiss said.

Parking is free at both venues, with overflow available across the street at Community Library Sedona for Basecamp events, and Schweiss said that parking was not an issue for last year’s screenings.

“Basecamp will offer a selection of craft beers, food and beverages and a special menu item themed to each film, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit SIFF,” a SIFF press release stated.

If weather necessitates a move, the outdoor screenings will relocate to the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, and a scheduled indoor screening will be bumped; however, only one of 32 events last season was affected. Refunds are available to patrons who prefer not to attend an indoor screening.

“It’s so much fun being there with your neighbors … and just enjoying Sedona’s outdoors and the beautiful evenings,” Schweiss said. “It’s magical when it turns from dusk into the evening and the stars come out, and when we’re blessed when the full moon usually rises, it does so in the middle of our movies, and it just creates this incredibly magical Sedona experience. Plus, you’re getting to see some great films that you may not have seen for a few years.”
