Summer Cinema Series returns to Posse Grounds Park2 min read

Supervillain Megamind [Will Ferrell] is aided in his evil schemes by Minion [David Cross], a talking fish in a mechanical suit. The city of Sedona’s Summer Cinema Series will return for 2023 with family-friendly feature films at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road. Films will be shown every Friday in June at 7:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the screenings will move indoors to The Hub.

“These are free fun events,” city recreation and aquatics supervisor Josh Frewin said. “You can bring the family, bring the spouse, bring the kids, come out with a blanket and enjoy a movie [and] enjoy the nice weather.”

Frewin claimed that the city is working to get food trucks at all of the showings; however, participants should plan on bringing their own food and nonalcoholic drinks at this time.

Additionally, only ADA service dogs will be allowed at the showings.

‘Megamind’

Friday, June 9: In a shocking turn of events, Megamind [Will Ferrell], a supervillain who falls on the less intimidating side, successfully brings Metro City to its knees and emerges victorious against his longstanding nemesis, the superhero Metro Man [Brad Pitt]. However, his triumph is short-lived and he finds himself faced with an even more malevolent adversary, Tighten [Jonah Hill], requiring his attention. Rated PG. 96 minutes.

‘The Truman Show’

n Friday, June 16: Released in 1998, “The Truman Show” serves as the coda to Jim Carrey’s slapstick work of the early 1990s. Truman Burbank’s life is a captivating saga. Unbeknownst to him, he is the main character of a reality TV show that meticulously documents every aspect of his existence. Rated PG. 103 minutes.

‘Grease’

Friday, June 23: Be prepared to have the memorable soundtrack stuck in your head after watching the 1978 high school musical “Grease.” Or come and watch it for context for its prequel streaming series “Rise of the Pink Ladies.” During a memorable summer, an earnest and well-behaved teenage girl from Australia, Sandy Olsson [Olivia Newton-John], finds herself captivated by rebellious greaser Danny Zuko [John Travolta]. However, their love faces significant challenges when her family relocates to the boy’s hometown and she begins attending the same school as him, Rydell High. Rated PG. 110 minutes.

‘Muppet Treasure Island’

Friday, June 30: Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the Muppets help tell their on take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s timeless swashbuckling 1883 novel “Treasure Island.” Jim Hawkins [Kevin Bishop] receives a treasure map from an enigmatic sailor. Determined to uncover the hidden riches, Jim embarks on a perilous journey alongside his companions, the daring Great Gonzo and the mischievous Rizzo the Rat while running afoul of Long John Silver [Tim Curry]. Rated G. 99 minutes
