Burglary suspect arrested, charged1 min read

The Sedona Police Department reported that at around 4:50 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, officers responded to a call on Rhapsody Road of someone trying to break into a home via the bathroom window.

Caleb Jonathan Smith, a transient, had reportedly fled before officers arrived. However, a police report states that, “It appears that he remained in the shadows and tried to get into other structures and parked vehicles in the general area.”

While officers remained in the area on the lookout for the subject, an alert neighbor called in just after 6 a.m. reporting a suspicious subject who was lurking in residential yards and got into a neighbor’s vehicle.

“The neighbor provided a terrific description as the subject left the location on foot, with officers subsequently locating him nearby on Harmony Drive,” the report states.

Smith then reportedly refused to comply with officers’ commands and fled on foot. The subject was quickly apprehended by an officer who gave chase and was taken into custody in the area of Windsong Drive and Raven Road without incident.

Smith was found in possession of stolen property and was tied to at least five additional home invasions and burglaries, which involved going into unsecured vehicles, onto properties and outbuildings, and into houses. The incidents had taken place earlier that morning.
