A female bicyclist was airlifted to Flagstaff with serious injuries following a collision with a vehicle.
On Sunday, April 26, around 9:30 a.m. the 66-year-old cyclist collided with a vehicle driven by a 78-year-old man. Both were traveling north on State Route 179 near the roundabout at Chapel Road, the Sedona Police Department reported. The collision occurred as the two were entering the area of the roundabout where the bicycle lane ends.
The bicycle collided with the right side of the vehicle and veered off the roadway to the right, crashing to the ground.
A Sedona police officer was in proximity to the collision when the incident occurred, and ran to the scene to render immediate aid. He performed CPR until Sedona Fire District personnel arrived to take over emergency medical care.
The woman sustained a life-threatening head injury and was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center via helicopter. As of Monday, April 27, she was still listed in the intensive care unit. Charges against the driver are pending as the investigation continues.
