The Sedona Public Library is doing well, but needs help. Library staff are putting together the first ever “Pop-Up Poetry Online” program for Library Giving Day, April 23. This is a major fundraiser for Sedona Public Library, and the event was supposed to be in the library, with doughnuts, balloons, music, friends and poems.

Now the event is going to be online. The library needs short videos of you, your friends, spouse, family, etc. reading poems, especially people who love the library. This will be great to help the library succeed in its fundraiser.

The library has secured $30,000 in matching gifts, and brought in just over $11,000 so far towards that match. So $19,000 more to go.

Please consider this fun opportunity. The library will post poetry videos all day long on our Facebook page on April 23, so poems will “pop up.”

Video Guidelines for Sedona Public Library Pop-Up Poetry Event, April 23.

  • Video should be approximately two minutes long.
  • Use QuickTime or MP4
  • Use highest pixel rate, ideally high definition (HD) 720 or 1920×1080,
  • Film in landscape orientation
  • Make sure light is facing reader, not behind
  • No background noise nor music

Must be original, written by reader, or from “public domain.” Public domain links below include:

Be sure to read title and author’s name

GENERAL

Introduce yourself

Be creative, have fun with props, costumes, do a group reading if you’d like, etc.

End the video with a call to action, something like:

“Please support Sedona Public Library for Library Giving Day. Visit Sedonalibrary.org to donate.” or “Thank you, Sedona Public Library, for all you do for the community,” or something like that.

Review the video before sending it to Sedona Public Library Development Director Anne Marie Mackler at amackler@sedonalibrary.org.

Filename should include parent/guardian name

Christopher Fox Graham

Christopher Fox Graham is the managing editor of the Sedona Rock Rock News, The Camp Verde Journal and the Cottonwood Journal Extra. Hired by Larson Newspapers as a copy editor in 2004, he became assistant manager editor in October 2009 and managing editor in August 2013. Graham has won awards for editorials, investigative news reporting, headline writing, page design and community service from the Arizona Newspapers Association. Graham has also been a guest contributor in Editor & Publisher magazine and featured in the LA Times, New York Post and San Francisco Chronicle. He lectures on journalism, media law and the First Amendment and is a nationally recognized performance aka slam poet. In January 2025, the International Astronomical Union formally named asteroid 29722 Chrisgraham (1999 AQ23) in his honor at the behest of Lowell Observatory, citing him as "an American journalist and longtime managing editor of Sedona Red Rock News. He is a nationally-recognized slam poet who has written and performed multiple poems about Pluto and other space themes."
