The Red Rock News chatted with Sedona Scorpions running back Jackson Coughlin about this season and his future goals. Coughlin is a junior at Sedona High School and also plays basketball for the Scorpions.
What is your favorite play in the playbook?
My favorite play is 42 Sally, it is where we run a fake outside pitch and then I cut to the inside. The outside is wide open so I cut back to the outside into the lane.
What has been your favorite highlight this season?
The Camp Verde game is definitely my favorite game from this season. Getting two touchdowns that game was great and winning for my friend that died was definitely the most memorable part.That was one of those games where every player put their heart into it and we ended up winning.
What have you improved on the most from last season to this season?
I have improved my leadership and my playmaking ability. I have been trying to improve my leadership as I age and teach the younger kids what I can.
How would you describe your quarterback Jake Brown?
Jake is a very consistent quarterback who is good at reading the field. He makes sure everyone gets the ball and he is a great leader for our team.
Before a game how do you get yourself motivated to play your best?I put myself in a mental position that I go out there and perform like the best player I can be.
When you are not in class or playing football, how do you spend your time?
When I have free time my friends and I like to eat, watch movies and hang out around town. I also enjoy spending time with my family and eating out. I also work at Famous Pizza whenever I am not in school or playing football. There is a bunch of things to do out in Sedona.
What kind of movies are you into?
My favorite genres are comedy, science fiction and horror-type films.
Who are your favorite athletes?
My two favorite players are Lebron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Desean Jackson from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lebron is not just an athlete, he provides for his city and is such a great role model and leader for his area. I just look to be successful in other ways besides sports in life.
What types of music do you listen to?
Definitley hip hop and rap. I am into Lil’ Wayne and Drake and some of the newer rappers that are currently big. I like music that motivates you before games and you can also relax to it at home.
What are your plans after graduating high school?
Hopefully I can continue playing football in college. I want to study business and real estate and continue to improve as a person.
What career path would you like to have?
I definitely would want a job in the sales industry. My goal for the future is using my personality to benefit my job.
What is your favorite subject in school and why?
My favorite subject would have to be math because it not only helps you out in high school, but later on in life. It benefits you throughout many areas of life and can help you achieve the goals you aspire for.
