Sedona swimmer Cody Brefeld won the boys 50-yard freestyle in 25.84 seconds and finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a 57.41.

Jaiah Grondin came away victorious in the boys 500-yard freestyle with a 6:34.94.

Sedona took home the top two spots for the boys 200-yard individual medley as Andrew Tate (2:20.10) beat out Zach Dana (2:32.91).

“The team really knows how to step up for a team event and swim for each other which is great to see,” Sedona coach Daniel Morse said.

As the regular season winds down, Morse is making sure the swimmers are in top form for state.

“One way we attempt to prevent burn out in the swimmers is by having variety in meets and practice,” Morse said. “In dual meets we try mixing the kids events up so they don’t swim the same events every time; we still focus on competing but we like to keep the kids mentally fresh.”

The Scorpions have been simulating meet events in practice to fine tune their technique.

“ We still have a lot to work to but it has been great to see the amount of progress we have made throughout the season,” Morse said.
While the state tournament is only one month away, Sedona is preparing for the meet but still finds time for fun in practice.

“Another thing we have added in is playing water polo once a week for the last hour of practice,” Morse said. “ It is a lot of sprinting so they are still training speed but water polo is more of a team effort so it works well for team bonding.”

Sedona’s next swim meet is Thursday, October. 4. when the Scorpions host Anthem Prep High School, Northland Prep High School and Valley Christian.

The match begins at 4 p.m.
