The beauty of nature has always fascinated Donna Bonavito and this is the inspiration for art exhibition titled Divine Inspirations showing Sunday, Nov. 20, with an opening reception Friday,
Oct, 28, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
Each piece of Bonavito’s contributes to the next. This show focuses on her largest body of work done using collage-cut images of photographs she’s either found or has taken herself. The collection is a contrast between the divine feminine held in sacred nature, juxtaposed with modern, masculine tools — especially with the use of computers, Photoshop and printers.
The experience of presenting this to her audience compares to the Zen experience of a puzzle. “If I need a piece, I make it using the tools present,” Bonavito said. “This art is a piece of my soul.” She expresses the power and magic of not only our dreams, but also our realities.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in painting from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, she traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States. Bonavito was raised in Arizona and it always called her back. For the last 10 years, she has lived in Sedona, where she can be seen working at the Bearcloud Gallery.
The Oct. 28 opening reception for Divine Inspirations at the Sedona Posse Grounds Hub also features the enchanting music of a few local musicians. Sierra, who has recently played saxophone with local musicians, will be bringing her set of skills to the evening.
RCO, who plays percussion with flamenco guitarist Gaetano, will be jamming on an array of percussion instruments like the congas, bongs and cjon. Other musicians are likely to join in the musical artistry.
This art opening at the Hub will be an unforgettable event with a huge range of Bonavito’s art creations sure capture the imagination and draw you into a world of magical beauty. The acoustic, folk, rock, jazz and jam informal concert can be enjoyed by the audience surrounded by personal, mystical and brilliant at works.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the music starts at 6 p.m. There will be snacks, including vegan ice cream and chocolate. Come to the Hub at 525B Posse Grounds Road to get the Halloween weekend off to a beautiful start.
