Clearing the air on ‘serial killer’ rumors1 min read

The author Rhys Bowen once wrote that rumors are like a jar full of moths — once they escape, they are all over the place.

Within a span of three weeks, from Aug. 29 to Sept. 19, three bodies were found in public places in or around Sedona. It didn’t take long before rumors began to circulate, which included anything from there being a serial killer on the loose — with some reporting hearing that from law enforcement — to a citywide cover-up to prevent impact on Sedona’s tourist industry.

Sgt. Lucas Wilcoxson, a detective with the Sedona Police Department, said there is no truth to any of the rumors. “There is no serial killer in Sedona or the surrounding areas,” he said. “I wish someone could give me a name of who’s supposedly confirming this, because it’s simply not true.”
