Second rabid fox may be around; two dead foxes were found in area

Sedona has become the location of the state’s first confirmed case of a rabid animal attack in 2013.

According to Yavapai County Community Health Services, the incident occurred Jan. 2 near Elmersville Road southwest of Sedona when a child was bitten by a fox outside of his residence. The fox was later captured by Arizona Game and Fish. It tested positive for rabies Thursday, Jan. 3.

YCCHS Public Information Officer David McAtee said the family of the child reported the incident to authorities. Further details on the family were not available as of press time.
