Official results: Hay won a squeaker5 min read

Initial Sept. 2 primary election results were confirmed by official tallies released Wednesday, Sept. 10, but the contest between Republicans in the Congressional Dist. 1 race  to replace Rep. Rick Renzi was much closer than previously reported.

We previously reported the victories of Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick and Republican Sidney Hay in their respective U.S. House of Representatives primary races. One of the two will replace the disgraced Rep. Rick Renzi in Washington D.C.

But official results show Hay barely squeaked by Sandra Livingstone, winning by 118 votes out of 26,000 cast in the Republican primary.

Steve Pierce’s win over incumbent Tom O’Halleran (R-Sedona) in State Senate District 1 held up, though official results also show a write-in Democratic candidate won the opportunity to represent her party against Pierce in the Tuesday, Nov. 2, general election.

Pat Chancerelle of Prescott won 915 write-in votes to represent the Democrats in the general election.

Write-in candidate Dennis Grittner’s success in winning the Democratic party  spot on the November ballot for Dist. 1 State Representative also held up in the official count. He will face Republicans Andy Tobin and Lucy Mason in the general.

In other election news,  incumbent Yavapai County Assessor Victor Hambrick was ousted in the Republican primary by Pamela Pearsal, who will run unopposed in the general election. See the Wednesday, Sept. 17, edition of the Sedona Red Rock News for Hambrick’s reaction.

All three members of the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, Chip Davis, Carol Springer and Tom Thurman, retained their seats by wide margins and will run unopposed in the general election.
