When Gandalf the Grey fell from Bridge of Khazad-dûm to his supposed doom, readers of “The Lord of the Rings” felt one of the great wizards of fiction was finished.
But no Balrog, no Saruman, can keep a good wizard down.
Wizards, warriors and Sedona music lovers in costume emulating them both can dance like it’s the last night for Minas Tirith when the Yin Yang & Zen Some plays Sequel nightclub at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
The Sedona-based party band played Sequel’s grand opening show in January, packing the venue, and look to do the same at the upcoming show.
Those without the power to conjure chimeras or transmute gremlins to granite but are still crafty with a blade or bow are encouraged to strap on their bracers and bucklers and join in the festivities.
The “Good Morning Arizona” Road Show on 3TV featured the band during the show’s live broadcast from Uptown Sedona on April 3.
Television viewers from around the entire state of Arizona saw the self-deprecating humor, near-reckless self-confidence and flawless artistic prowess that it takes to be a successful working artist in Sedona.
The band is fronted by lead singers Nate Mullins and Jason Vargo, and the musical talents of guitarist and keyboard player Chris Jerman, bassist Dylan Jung, guitarist Mike Jung and drummer Lou “Don’t call me Noretti” Moretti.
Yin Yang & Zen Some is known around Sedona and Northern Arizona for both its themed costumed shows and playing songs from a wide variety of musical genres.
Masked partygoers filled the dance floor for the band’s “Masquerade Ball” while caped crusaders and vengeful supervillians put aside their grudges for “Superhero Night.”
“The Band The Fell From Outer Space” introduced Jedis and Klingons to Cylons and the “Surrealistic Show,” which opened Sequel, was a hodge-podge of artistic absurdity and non-sequiturs.
The “Wizards and Warriors” theme of the April 25 concert comes on the heels of the Arizona Renaissance Festival that ended last month, so costumes should still be easy to access for one last “huzzah” until they come out next year.
Park horses and dragons outside, check your swords and wands at the door and dance to Sedona’s best-known party rock band.
