A young Sedona Red Rock High School football team traveled down State Route 89A to Mingus Union High School for a set of four 7-on-7 passing league games, all against teams from higher conferences, on Wednesday, June 14.

Throughout the afternoon the group’s main goal was to focus on installing its defense, continue working on its offense, and just as importantly, developing team cohesion.

Natalie Monge, a senior-to-be on the Sedona Red Rock High School softball team, was recently honored by the Arizona Republic.

Monge was selected to their All-Conference 2A Honorable Mention list, which is decided upon by their sports staff based on statistics, observations and coaches comments.

A new sport has worked its way into the Verde Valley, specifically the Village of Oak Creek. In fact it is the only place north of Loop 101 in Phoenix to have the new hybrid sport: Footgolf.

Unlike pickleball, its name does not leave too much to the imagination; it is a combination of golf and soccer.

Week two of the Adult Summer Softball League saw some changes in the standings, and four of the six games were decided by three runs or less.

The Sedona Fire District saw action, too, when it was summoned to respond to an eye injury sustained during the middle set of games.

Hannah Ringel just graduated from Sedona Red Rock High School, but that did not mean she went on summer vacation from throwing.

Ringel represented Arizona and competed amongst throwers from around the country and Caribbean Islands at the Great Southwest Track & Field Classic on Saturday, June 3 at the University of New Mexico.

Of all of the swimming holes around the Verde Valley, it can be argued that Grasshopper Point in Oak Creek Canyon is the most complete package.

A bit of everything that someone would want in a quality summer’s day spent outdoors, but not suffering, can be found there: Cliff jumping, relaxation, sunlight, shade, sunbathing and easy accessibility. It even has bathrooms in the parking lot.

Typically when a new coach, or coaches, take over a team there is an impulse of new energy and competitive spirit amongst the players.

Even though Mic and Danni Barker are familiar faces to the Sedona Red Rock High School volleyball program, they will make sure that holds true.

The 2017 Adult Summer Softball League opening day saw a rematch from last summer’s championship game, but ended up with a number of blowouts on Thursday, June 1, at Posse Grounds Park.

And despite some of the stronger teams putting up double-digit runs, the consensus amongst all teams was the need for better batting.
