Sedona Red Rock High School and Camp Verde High School will remain members of the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s 2A conference during the next two-year alignment period, beginning in the 2018-19 season.

On Wednesday, Oct. 11, the AIA held a meeting to discuss the realignment of Conferences 1A, 2A and 3A, which are also known as the “small schools.”

A notable preliminary result was that Conference 2A got smaller while 3A got bigger.

For most people, a typical week starts off difficult and gets easier as the days pass.

The script was flipped for the Sedona Red Rock High School’s volleyball team last week, which won its three Central Region matches across four days; the difficulty increasing one after the other.

Sedona Red Rock High School’s cross country team ran in atypical conditions at the 11th annual Desert Twilight Cross Country Meet in Casa Grande on Friday, Sept. 29.

The meet brings together more than 100 teams from Arizona, California and other states for a nighttime race. The higher level of competition, along with running in cooler temperatures, helped push the Scorpions runners to personal bests across the board.

The final tune up before diving into Central Region action was a mostly successful one for the Sedona Red Rock High School volleyball team.

Finishing 2-3 at the big Chandler Prep Volleyball Invite, which featured 80 teams, was a somewhat deceiving record. The Scorpions played against a number of big schools, and most importantly, against region rival Glendale Preparatory Academy.

As the swimming and diving season approaches the midway point, Sedona Red Rock High School’s team is making progress with hopes of getting as many swimmers qualified for the state meet as possible.

Some individuals took a big step at the Scorpions’ first qualifying meet, the Saturday Night Fever Invitational, on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Chandler Pool.

Sedona Red Rock High School’s football team took on Phoenix Christian High School, ranked No. 1 in Conference 2A, losing 61-7 at home on Friday, Sept. 29.

The Scorpions [0-6, 0-2] got on the board in the third quarter, scoring just the third touchdown the Cougars [6-0, 2-0] have given up all season.
