Lynda D. Christopher, a personal trainer in the Verde Valley, was named the International Fitness Professionals Association’s personal trainer of the month for August, a national recognition.

When the Sedona Red Rock High School volleyball team departed for its match at Payson High School on Tuesday, Sept. 5, it did not know it would be in for a long afternoon.

The Scorpions’ iconic purple bus broke down outside of Camp Verde, leaving the team sitting in triple-digit heat for an hour and a half before the game. On the way home, the new bus hit a bear crossing the highway.

The Scorpions [3-0] pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Longhorns, but not without some hiccups along the way there, too.

The Sedona Red Rock High School football team led 27-18 after three quarters at Chino Valley High School, but gave up 10 unanswered points in the fourth to lose 28-27 on Friday, Sept. 1.

After the Scorpions [0-2] were stopped inside of the Cougars’ 10 yard line, Chino Valley [2-0] senior kicker Matt Rios hit a 47-yard field goal with less a minute remaining to seal the comeback victory.

Sedona Red Rock High School’s swimming team started off the 2017 season with a win over visiting Chandler Preparatory Academy by a combined score of 99-89 on Thursday, Aug. 31 at the Posse Grounds Community Pool.

With about 30 total swimmers on the team, there is a mix of inexperienced boys and a much deeper girls side; the boys lost 51-43 while the girls picked up the slack with a 56-38 win.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Sedona Red Rock High School’s cross country program has made a comeback.
After nonexistence last season, 2016 Scorpions graduate Wyatt Stevenson took the reins for 2017.

Stevenson was unsure how many athletes would join, but now has 12 on his roster, and they all have potential.

Old habits die hard, and trying something new can be a difficult thing for anyone, including a sports team.

Sedona Red Rock High School’s volleyball team did not begin to experiment with its new plays until the third game of its sweep [25-12, 25-14, 25-21] of Chino Valley High School on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
