Three Sedona Red Rock High School athletes were selected to the Arizona Interscholastic Association All-Conference 2A teams in their respective sports.
The teams are comprised of players from schools throughout the entire conference, not just the region.
Representing the volleyball team were senior libero Liza Westervelt and sophomore hitter/middle blocker Jacki King, each making the Honorable Mention list. The team was eliminated in straight sets at the hands of Chandler Preparatory Academy in the 2A Play-In Tournament.
Westervelt had the ninth-most digs in the conference with 338, also good for first in the Central Region. She was named the Central Region Defensive Player of the Year as well as First Team All-Region.
She also had 79 service aces, good for eighth in the conference, 22nd in the entire state and second in the region.
King had the fifth-most blocks in the region at 33. Offensively, she had 237 kills, good for 14th in the conference and third in the region.
In just her second full year playing the sport, she was named First Team All-Region.
Evan Favorite, a junior, was the football team’s jack of all trades. Favorite played wide receiver, defensive back, punter, kicker and kick returner.
For his efforts, he made the Honorable Mention list for Conference 2A as a kick returner. One advantage is his background as a soccer player, though this winter he is playing basketball.
In the region, Favorite was named First Team All-Central Region as a kickoff returner. He made Second Team as a defensive back, punter and receiver. Statistics were unavailable.
How deep a team advances in the conference playoffs typically affects the amount of selections and which teams, First, Second or Honorable Mention, they are placed on.
