ub competed in the penultimate race of the Arizona Interscholastic Cycling League on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22.
Comprised of sixth- to 12th-grade students from around the Verde Valley, the team traveled to McDowell Mountain Regional Park for the event.
The high school course was a 5.65-mile long loop with about 435 feet of climb.
The quartet of Sedona Red Rock High School riders was led by senior Cole Mace, who took 19th in the three-lap Division II junior varsity race in 1:26:51.00.
Scorpions junior Josh Reilly was 29th in the same race, clocking in at 1:33:14.13. Sophomore Cooper Barber and freshman Dakota Farrar raced in the two-lap Division 2 sophomore and freshman races, respectively. Barber finished in 1:04:22.55, good for 27th place, while Farrar was 26th in his race with a time of 1:07:14.00.
Mace maintained his 15th place ranking out of 72 overall in his division. Reilly sits in 48th.
Barber is 23rd of 54 in his division and Farrar 13th of 52.
Only a trio of bikers raced in the middle school division. Big Park Community School sixth-grader Benjamin Wishnewsky continued his strong season with an eighth place finish out of 44 riders, crossing the finish line in 34:45.03.
Fellow sixth-grader Luke Shook was 17th in the same competition, completing the race in 37:30.99.
Sedona Red Rock Junior High School seventh-grader Kale Emerson [47:18.68] took 57th in his race.
There are no rankings in the middle school division, which raced on a 3.1-mile long loop with a 175-foot climb per lap.
The fifth and final competition of the season is on Nov. 3 and 4 at White Tank Mountain Regional Park in Waddell.
