Was Frey interview an attack on KSB? Print E-mail

on 10-09-2008 14:59

Several Keep Sedona Beautiful supporters called today to complain about our front page interview with Jerry Frey, the former Sedona City Councilman who has asked to be appointed back to the council. One long time reader even said we should not have run the story at all.

Frey had some harsh words for KSB, derisively referring to the group of volunteers as "Keep Sedona Broke."

Those were his words, not ours. We simply reported what he had to say. He specifically asked that his comments about KSB be included in the article.

Frey had some interesting quotes, but his views about KSB were not the reason we ran the story. As someone with a good chance of being re-appinted to the council, we believe readers, especially sitting members of the council, should hear why Frey decided not to run again last spring and why he has decided to try and make a come back.

Frey has a significant constituency, though probably not too many are serving KSB members. His remarks about KSB, off the cuff, reflect the frustration many feel with the activist group.

On the other hand, harsh words about a large group of volunteers who have the best interests of Sedona at heart may not be the best way to talk yourself onto the council.

Either way, we think readers and council members should be fully acquainted with his point of view before the council sits down to vote on a replacement for Ramon Gomez, who resigned recently and moved to California.
