Local cataloguing Mortimer Adler’s unpublished philosophy

Ken Dzugan, the senior fellow and archivist for the Center for the Study of Great Ideas, is one of several Sedona area residents cataloguing the unpublished writings of deceased philosopher Mortimer J. Adler.

Adler, one of the 20th century’s most prolific authors, wrote hundreds of articles and books covering a wide range of topics before his death in 2001.

The 98-year-old author left behind an immense body of unpublished writings, much of which is locked away in a vault at the University of Chicago.

Through the center, which Adler co-founded in 1990, Dzugan is searching for grants and donations to continue compiling Adler’s remaining writings for publication.

Alder co-founded the Great Books of the Western World program and the Great Books Foundation and served on the board of editors of Encyclopædia Britannica from its inception in 1949.
