It didn’t take a crucible to prove that this was the one ring Patt Groves had lost 44 years ago.

In high school, the Uptown balloon reservationist worked hard to purchase her class ring and was proud of her accomplishment.

Over his career Jeffrey Lyons has reviewed more than 15,000 movies. But it’s his father’s career and those memories of growing up in New York that he enjoys talking about the most.

Lyons returned to the Sedona International Film Festival for the second year in a row to help introduce not only a pair of films but his longtime friend Elliott Gould, who received the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

History is full of lessons, even when that history isn’t quite accurate.

Local cowboy poet and performer Michael Peach proved just that as he performed several of his stories as the featured guest of the Sedona Welcomers Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock.

Calling it a “love letter to Sedona,” Mackenzie Phillips and Glenn Scarpelli talked about the joys and challenges of making a new movie that debuted at the Sedona International Film Festival.

The film, “Sacred Journeys,” premiered on Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Sedona Performing Arts Center with a second showing [which is sold out] set for Saturday, Feb. 27. It was shot entirely in Sedona in less than a week.

Two Sedona Red Rock High School students, Tara Aitken and Viridiana Trinidad, will compete at the Regional level at Poetry Out Loud, held Saturday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff .

The two made the cut after placing in the school-wide competition.

According to Director of Juvenile Court Services for Yavapai County Scott Maberry, many people express confusion when he brings up the subject of human trafficking in the county.

“You get some people who say, ‘I had no idea that was an issue here,’” Maberry said.

Over the last nine years, the Sedona Park Rangers have volunteered thousands of hours, answered countless questions from visitors and have lent a helping hand for a variety of community events.

And, 2015 was no exception.

Wayne Ranney traveled to one of the most rugged landscapes in the world in a vessel so luxurious it was named “The World.”

Ranney, a well-known geologist in the Verde Valley, presented his trip to Antarctica to the Sedona Welcomers on Jan. 27 at the Sedona Hilton Resort at Bell Rock in the Village of Oak Creek.
