It comes down to one man’s hobby versus his neighbors’ views.A ham radio tower stands above Richard Factor’s Sedona home. Neighbors have complained to the city, claiming the tower is an eyesore and possibly dangerous. Factor claims he has gone through all restrictions on the tower and antenna and that his tower is not in any violation.

Last year, Sedona resident Richard Factor obtained a city building permit to install a ham radio tower in the backyard of his Soldier Pass Road home. The tower stands 59 feet, 9 inches and atop is a 40-foot-wide antenna.

Sedona city code states that if an antenna is more than 60 feet high, the owner must obtain a conditional use permit. This includes neighbors being notified and it going before the Sedona Planning and Zoning Commission for possible approval.
