On Dec. 4, at about 8:54 p.m. Cottonwood Public Safety Communications received a 9-1-1 call advising there was a shooting and the individuals involved were leaving the area in a red SUV, according to Cottonwood Police Department Cmdr. Gary Eisenga.
Cottonwood police officers responded to the 600 block of S. Second Street in regard to the shooting. Officers observed several subjects attempting to leave the area in a red SUV.
The subjects were detained while officers attempted to locate the shooting scene. Officers were directed to a home where the shooting had occurred.
Upon entry officers discovered a gunshot victim lying on the ground. The victim was transported to Verde Valley Medical Center where he was later pronounced decease, Eisenga stated. The deceased man was identified as a 27-year-old man from Goodyear. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
