Rabies Vaccine still a Series of Shots

By: Pensive1 POSTED: Friday April 25, 2008 00:15

Good Article. Just one comment which is that the comparison of rabies treatment to a flu shot is a bit misleading. A rabies exposure requires a series of 5 vaccine shots over a month, in addition to a shot of Rabies Immune Globulin and a Tetanus shot. Glad to hear the rabid fox was caught and destroyed and that the bite victims are well.

Rabies shots

Thanks for your comment. Our report was based on information from the Sedona Police Department Animal Control Officer who underwent the treatment himself several times. He claimed the series of five shots is no longer current practice. A single injection is all that is required, he said. We appreciate the feedback - keep reading.
