Road construction. Nobody enjoys it but, like paying taxes, it’s something that has to be done.

The city of Sedona is taking the first steps toward a project in Uptown slated for this summer. It’s one that officials were hoping to do this past June when the switchbacks in Oak Creek Canyon were being repaved.

According to a report from City Engineering Supervisor Adam Miele, this project will include full roadway reconstruction of State Route 89A between Forest Road and 500 feet north of Art Barn Road. The parking areas, outside the mainline of the roadway, will remain intact. The city reconstructed the parking areas in 2007, which will not be included in the reconstruction designed in this project. There are existing utilities located within the construction corridor and limited information is known on exact location and depth of these utilities.

Traffic and pedestrian control will be critical to the success of the project, Miele wrote. The traffic and pedestrian control measures will need to be clearly planned out and implementation of the plans will need to stringent.
