Fire around SFD fizzles out1 min read

Sedona Fire District Governing Board candidate Scott Jablow and incumbent board member Nazih Hazime will likely run unopposed for two seats on the SFD board.

Former Sedona Fire District Governing Board Chairman Dave Blauert said he will not run in the upcoming November election.

According to the Yavapai County Elections Office, Blauert and former SFD Governing Board member Phyllis Erick failed to provide signatures by the cutoff Wednesday, Aug. 8, for their names to appear on the Tuesday, Nov. 6, election ballot. Both Blauert and Erick originally expressed their intentions to run in the upcoming Nov. 6 election.

While Blauert said he has no plans for the November election, he plans to run again in two years.

“My campaign group, which has supported me, thinks I should wait until the next election. It’s too close to the last election, so they think it won’t do any good. So I am pulling back,” Blauert said.

Erick declined to comment.

The news could mean incumbent SFD Governing Board member Nazih Hazime and candidate Scott Jablow will run unopposed. Jablow would replace current board member Craig Dible, who said he would not seek another term.

Write-in candidates, however, will be accepted until 5 p.m.,  Wednesday, Aug. 22.
