Seven years ago Dylan Jung had the gumption to create a performance event for other artists who thought like him. GumptionFest was born.

The festival is a free participation celebration of the arts in general — an opportunity for artists, performers and businesses to get up the gumption to celebrate and share their art and creativity.

“Gumption is an informal noun that basically means spunk, the willingness to go out and do something. It’s associated with words like resourcefulness, guts, courage and taking the initiative,” said Jason Vargo, one of the organizers of GumptionFest VII. “Dylan wanted to give an avenue of expression for artists who didn’t have an outlet. We are in the midst of a lot of artistically minded individuals who fall into that category. That’s the root of the GumptionFest.”

GumptionFest VII will be held Friday through Sunday, Sept. 14 through 16, in The Old Marketplace near New Frontiers Natural Marketplace; Olde Sedona Bar & Grill, 1405 W. SR 89A; and Oak Creek Brewing Co., 2070 Yavapai Drive. Organizers expect more than 1,200 people to attend and participate over the three days.
