Swordfish swim to second-place spot

Swimmers from all over Northern and Central Arizona were in town to show off their swimming skills.

Sopia Licher and three other swimmers with the Sedona Swordfish won first place in the 400-yard Medley Relay race during the three-day Sedona Splash Invitational at the Sedona Community Pool in West Sedona (above). The Swordfish took second place overall.The Red Peaks Aquatic Club hosted the Sedona Splash Invitational on Friday, June 22, through Sunday, June 24, at the Sedona Community Pool. The three-day event was the 24th annual invitational hosted in Sedona.

“This meet was the largest meet we have ever put on, and it was incredible,” said A. Jay Bronson, head coach of the Sedona Swordfish.

The Bullhead City Barracudas, Kingman Dolphins, Flagstaff Snow Sharks, Cottonwood Clippers and, of course, the Sedona Swordfish all competed.

Swimmers from the ages of 5 to 18 participated in 98 events.
