Junior Mykala Seresun continued her domination of the 2011 season Friday, Sept. 30, taking home gold once again, this time at the Desert Twilight Cross-Country Festival in Gilbert.
Seresun finished first overall in the girls small schools division with a 19:28.10 time. Junior teammate Eva Wilson was behind by almost a full minute, taking second overall with a 20:22.30 time.
Sedona Red Rock High School cross-country Head Coach Harry Schneider’s comments last week on Seresun’s superb season were probably an understatement. The young star has won four of Sedona’s five cross-country races this season.
As a team, Sedona finished ninth overall out of 25 schools with 218 total team points.
Saguaro High School won the meet with 129 points while Northland Preparatory Academy took second with 151 points. Campo Verde High School rounded out the top three with 153 points.

In the boys race at Toka Sticks Golf Club on Friday, Sedona finished 10th overall with 243 total team points. Winslow High School won the invitational in Gilbert with 108 points while Northland Preparatory was second with 112 points. Notre Dame Preparatory Academy wrapped up the top three with 136 points.
Sedona senior Brandon Snickers was the top finisher for the Scorpions, taking 17th overall with a 17:56.50 time. Snickers was off the pace by just over a minute. Higley High School product Brennen Barfuss took first overall in Gilbert with a 16:49.20 time.
Other top performances for the Scorpion boys included senior Gabe Greenfield who took 38th overall with an 18:37.40 time, and sophomore Travis Okie was 44th overall with an 18:46 time. Senior Zac Johnson was 64th with a 19:20.70 time.
The Scorpions will train hard this week in an effort to get ready for the Jack Boehle Memorial Invitational, which is set to take place at Coconino High School in Flagstaff on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Sedona has three meets to go including Saturday’s event before the Section II [Division IV] Cham-pionships take place at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff on Friday, Oct. 28. The Division IV State Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.
