Seresun continues to shine |

Despite three girls finishing in the top 10 on Saturday, Sept. 24, the Scorpions finished only fourth overall with 103 points at the Shane C. Morris Invitational in Pinetop-Lakeside. At Woodland Lake Park on Saturday, Mykala Seresun continued her stellar junior season, finishing first overall out of 52 runners with a 20:22.13 time. It is the third gold medal this season for the Sedona Red Rock High School cross-country standout.
Junior Eva Wilson wasn’t far behind, finishing fifth overall with a 21:59.11 time, while junior Taylor Gage took ninth overall with a 22:18.81 time. Sophomore Tatiana Chionis finished 39th overall with a 25:24.19 time and freshman Krupa Bhakta was 49th with a 28:46.49 time to wrap up the top five for the Scorpions. Flagstaff High School took the top prize at the invitational hosted by Blue Ridge High School, finishing first overall with 50 points. Chinle High School took second with 56 points while Sedona rival Mingus Union High School was third with 63 points. For the boys, Sedona took sixth overall with 141 points while Mingus won the event with 42 points. The Marauders had the top two runners in the field Saturday with seniors Juan Wells and Colin Garttmeier finishing first and second overall. The Scorpions’ top runner came in at 11th overall as senior Brandon Snickers finished the course in 18:39.72. Senior Gabe Greenfield was 26th overall with a 19:34.74 time while sophomore Travis Okie was 30th overall with a 19:44.17 time. Wrapping up the top five for Sedona was senior Zac Johnson who was 33rd overall with a 20:16.85 time. Sedona is scheduled to participate in the Desert Twilight Cross-Country Festival on Friday, Sept. 30, in Gilbert. The meet will be held at the Toka Sticks Golf Course in Gilbert and is set to start at 5 p.m. “This is the best meet of the season. The kids are really looking forward to it,” Schneider said. |
