As the Sedona Red Rock High School boys basketball team rolls right on through the season it pulled out a win against Chino Valley High School on Saturday, Jan. 7.
“We looked like we rolled out of bed 10 minutes before tipoff, because it took us so long to get going,” Sedona Head Coach Brian Bergner Jr. said. However, the 5-14 Scorpions came back in the second and third quarters, outscoring Chino Valley 35-15, which ultimately led Sedona to another win. Sedona had 54 total rebounds, a season high, with 13 assists, 14 steals and 19 turnovers. Junior Keenan Crans scored four points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals. “I think it was a really important win because we want to get back on track with a winning streak. I feel that our team has gotten a lot stronger throughout the season and we should be able to finish out the season with a winning record,” Crans said. Senior Bradley Cox had 10 points, eight rebounds with two steals and two assists. “After the first quarter the kids started to play better, but we can’t play down to our opponent and that’s what I think we did against Chino Valley,” Bergner said. Junior Steven Sundberg had yet another great performance scoring 13 points and adding 18 rebounds with two steals. The juniors were a powerhouse for the Scorpions, and junior Graham McGilvray was right along with them with 14 points, two steals, and one assist. With a few games left in the season the team strives hard to finish out the season strong. “We’ve got some games coming up that I think we can win, but it’s up to the players to come out and play hard,” Bergner said.
