There might not be a lot of girls on the Sedona Red Rock High School softball team, and many of them may be young and inexperienced, but their determination, commitment and effort gives them the potential to compete on the same level as any of their big school competitors.

Scorpions starting pitcher sophomore Emily Aitken, winds up during a scrimmage against the Williams Vikings on Feb. 19, at Sedona Red Rock High School. The Scorpions’ first two games of the season are both at home starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, against Northland Preparatory Academy and on Tuesday, March 5, against Williams.“To be honest, it will be a building year for us,” said Emily Aitken, the starting pitcher for the Scorpions. “We don’t have the number of players we want to. Everyone works hard and wants to be better, but it’s going to take time.”

Head Coach John Parks saw the work it’s going to take after a scrimmage against Williams on Feb. 19.
