The Sedona Red Rock High School boys soccer team started the 2011-2012 season with a big win over visiting Coconino High School on Nov. 30, defeating the Panthers in a thriller, 1-0.
Sedona took five total shots on goal last Wednesday against Coconino, none of which found the back of the net. A Panther defender accidently kicked the ball in his own net in the 11th minute, giving the Scorpions a 1-0 lead, a lead they would retain the remainder of the game. “There was a great cross by Cesar Pedroza and Josh Serin was right there. Even Seth Giorgianni was there, so I think even if the Coconino kid didn’t kick it in, we would have,” Hauserman said. Defensively for the Scorpions, Sedona was on top of its game. The Scorpions were led by goalkeeper Kyle DeTar, who recorded his first shutout of the season against Coconino. “It was a extremely hard-fought game,” DeTar said. “I couldn’t have asked anything more of our defense.” DeTar recorded five saves in the thrilling 1-0 victory. With the victory, Sedona improves to 1-0 on the season. The Scorpions were in action Tuesday, Dec. 6, when they played host to Page High School. Results were unavailable at press time. Next up for the Scorpions, Sedona will travel south to participate in the Coyotes Soccer Classic on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10. The soccer classic takes place at Arizona Lutheran Academy. Sedona is scheduled to play Valley Lutheran High School on Friday at 2:45 p.m. The Scorpions will play Bourgade Catholic High School in the night cap at 6 p.m. “We start with pool play, then go to bracket play on Saturday. It should be a great tournament for the kids,” Hauserman said. The next time Sedona comes home will be Friday, Jan. 13, when the Scorpions host rival Mingus Union High School. Start time against Mingus is set for 6 p.m. |
