Scorpions looking for win at Greyhills
Written by Brian Bergner Jr.

Coming off its 53-20 victory over Tuba City High School a week ago, the Scorpions are looking to make it two wins in a row Friday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Greyhills Academy High School.

If the Sedona Red Rock High School football team is victorious against the Fightin’ Knights, it would be the first time the Scorpions have won back-to-back games since Jim Cromartie led the squad in 2005.

That year, Cromartie’s last season at the helm, Sedona went 4-6 overall but beat Estrella Foothills [34-20] and Parker [35-13] high schools in consecutive weeks.

Sedona takes its 1-2 record to Greyhills after destroying visiting Tuba City during homecoming Sept. 9, 53-20.

The Scorpions had the toughest schedule in the first two games of the season within Division V ranks having played Winslow High School and the defending 2A conference state champion Northwest Christian High School.

Winslow and Northwest Christian are both 3-0 to start the year and are ranked at the top of their respective divisions.

The Fighin’ Knights are 20-30 overall in the past five seasons, but have begun the 2011 campaign with a perfect 3-0 record. Greyhills currently sits at No. 17 in the Division V Arizona Interscholastic Association power point polls. Sedona is three spots behind them at No. 20.

Greyhills played Tuba City in its second game of the season Sept. 2 and had no problems with its rival, winning 48-12.

Rick Walsworth - Sedona Football Head CoachThe Scorpions and their coaching staff are well aware of what Greyhills does on both sides of the ball, according to second-year Sedona Head Coach Rick Walsworth.

“I’ve got the tapes, and we’ve reviewed them. We prepared all week, and now it’s up to the boys to get the job done,” Walsworth said.

Greyhills has outscored its opponents 112-20 this season, beating Red Mesa High School to open the season Aug. 26, 30-8, and getting a 34-0 victory over Valley High School on Sept. 9.

If the Scorpions can steal a victory at Greyhills this week, Sedona will be 2-2 heading into next week where they will welcome rival Camp Verde High School.

The Cowboys are a perfect 3-0 to start the season as well and are set to travel to Chino Valley High School on Friday.

Kickoff between Greyhills and Sedona is set for 7 p.m.
