The Scorpion track and field team traveled 15 minutes down State Route 89A to Cottonwood on Friday, April 20, to participate in the inaugural Mingus Invitational.

Senior Chris Oestmann, right, leaps over hurdles at the Mingus Invitational on Friday, April 20. Oestmann won the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.04 time and was first in the 300-meter hurdles with a 40.91 time. The Scorpions took second overall at the meet.Early last week, longtime Sedona Red Rock High School track and field Head Coach Harry Schneider said it would be a “low-key” meet for the Scorpions, but a second-place finish in both the boys and girls divisions is anything but “low-key.”

The boys took second overall as a team behind the rival Marauders with 149.5 points. Mingus had 192 for first overall while Winslow High School wrapped up a top-three spot with 89 points.
