The Sedona Red Rock High School girls basketball team added another win Saturday, Jan. 7, defeating the visiting Cougars easily, 68-44. “We had controlled passes and good positioning for the rebounds, which gave our team the advantage over Chino Valley,” second-year Sedona Head Coach Tina Hawes said.
Sedona led 20-11 after the first quarter of play and was up 36-25 at halftime but used an 18-5 third quarter to pull away from the visiting Cougars. Sophomore guard Morgan Hawes led all scorers Saturday with 17 points while adding seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in the 24-point victory. “It was probably the best game of my life. I felt like our team was unified and finally just moved together as one out on the court. Once we got into our rhythm we had it pretty easy,” Morgan Hawes said. Sophomore guard Amber Rippy scored 15 points and had eight assists and four steals while senior guard Taihler Nolte had 11 points and two steals. Junior forward Sierra Hatler-Stefick chipped in eight points. She had 12 rebounds as well to lead her team. “We were able to play our game and to dominate defensively. We kept turnovers down and got in there for rebounds. We played well as a team,” Hatler-Stefick said. With the victory, Sedona improves to 10-7 overall this season but is 4-5 in Arizona Interscholastic Association power point play. Next up, the Scorpions are scheduled to host Orme High School on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Tipoff against Orme is set for 5:30 p.m. |

The Scorpions had 62 total rebounds as a team Saturday to go along with 20 assists, a season high in both categories.
