The Sedona Red Rock High School volleyball team earned its second trip to the final four in the last three seasons, defeating No.4 Horizon Honors High School on Friday, Nov. 4, 3-1. "We played well in the first game against Horizon Honors and that gave us some momentum for the rest of the match," longtime Sedona Head Coach John Parks said. Parks and the Scorpions easily beat Miami High School on Thursday, Nov. 3, 3-0, advancing to the Division IV state tournament quarterfinals against Horizon Honors. Sedona took full advantage of its fast start Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, winning game one 25-11 to take a one game lead in the best-of-five series. The Scorpions held serve in game two, defeating the Eagles 25-19. Horizon Honors began to play better in game two, and eventually won game three over Sedona 25-22. Horizon Honor's victory had no effect on Sedona, which went on to win game four, 25-21, earning the series victory. The Scorpions are set to resume their state championship title run Saturday, Nov. 5, in Prescott Valley. Sedona is scheduled to play the No. 1 seeded Thatcher High School. Thatcher made it to the 2A conference state final four in 2010, losing to Northwest Christian High School in the finals, 3-0. Start time is set for 11 a.m. If the Scorpions win, Sedona will play in the Division IV state title match at 6 p.m. |
