Entering his fifth year at the helm, Scorpion girls soccer Head Coach Tom Cadigan is optimistic about his team’s chances to be a good ball club this winter.
In 2011-2012, alignments have changed and it will be up to the players for Sedona to adjust, according to Cadigan. “I think our team is going to be good. We have a strong group of juniors, but the competition will be stronger and the girls will need to be up for that level of play,” Cadigan said. Sedona earned a first-round bye in the 1A-3A conference state playoffs last winter with a No. 4 seed. The Scorpions played No. 12 Yuma Catholic High School in round two, winning 4-2 and advancing to the state semifinals.
The Scorpions ran into No. 1-seeded Pusch Ridge High School in the final four, losing 3-1. Pusch Ridge lost to No. 3-seeded Estrella Foothills High School in the title match, 1-0. Top returners for Sedona this winter include senior Catrina Lee-Wilkins, who is a captain this year, along with a strong junior core of players like Holly Drotzman, goalkeeper Sierra Winters, Marissa Surber, Jordan Matthews, Meredith Woodford and Cassie Sanchez. The Scorpions begin the 2011-2012 campaign at home Thursday, Dec. 1, welcoming Bradshaw Mountain High School with a 6 p.m. start time. “With the new alignment and whatnot it will be interesting to see what happens with this year’s team,” Cadigan said. |
