The Scorpions baseball team started the season in a not-so-ideal way, but the young team has potential to mark up wins once the players start to put in the effort that the coaches likely know they have.

Scorpions Sophomore Scott Moker swings during his team’s first game of the 2013 season on Friday, Feb. 22, at Mingus Union High School (above). Sedona [0-1] lost 10-0 to rival Mingus Union [1-0] in a shortened game after the Marauders scored their 10th run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Sedona Red Rock Scorpions [0-1] lost to the rival Mingus Union Marauders [1-0] on opening day of the 2013 season Friday, Feb. 22, at Mingus Union High School, in a shortened five-inning game, 10-0.

Scorpions Relief Pitcher, junior Carlos Rodriguez, winds up to pitch.“We did not execute,” Scorpions Head Coach Randy Hafner said after a scrimmage against Williams, three days before the first game of the season. “The effort was not where it needed to be.”

That’s exactly what happened for the Scorpions in the loss to Mingus Union.
